About
Stop Reading Labels. We’ve done it for you.
Skip the Label started because reading every ingredient list in the grocery aisle takes hours. You add a recipe (a link, pasted text or a photo of a recipe card) or a plain shopping list, choose what you avoid, and pick your store. We check each product's ingredients and give you the ones that pass, with the aisle when the store provides it, and a plain-English “why rejected” for the rest.
What you can avoid
- High-fructose corn syrup, natural flavors, seed oils, and artificial color dyes (Red 40, Yellow 5 and friends), as one-tap presets.
- Any other ingredient from a searchable list of about 28,000 real US label ingredients, or anything you type.
- Hearts (favorites) carry into every new list, so you set it up once.
- Certifications: We can't verify certifications like halal, kosher or organic from store data yet. Check the package for the certification mark. You can still search for items like “organic” or “halal”; results show as usual.
Where the data comes from
- USDA FoodData Central branded foods (public domain).
- Open Food Facts (© Open Food Facts contributors, ODbL).
- Store data from each store's official source where available (for example the Kroger API, fetched live). We're not affiliated with any retailer.
How we make money
The app is free. Later we plan to earn commissions from clearly labeled paid links (like sending a list to Instacart or buying at Walmart) and possibly an optional premium plan. Commissions never change which products pass your filter, and we never sell your data. See the Affiliate Disclosure and Privacy Policy.
Community recipes
Recipes are private unless you make them public. Public recipes and profiles have a Report button, and a person reviews every report.
